*Please note that our film scanning service is currently only for still images. We are not currently able to do film scans for motion pictures at this moment.*
Our film scanning services place an emphasis on color fidelity, color accuracy, sharpness, and maintaining the rich texture of film. We wanted to offer options that are different from the typical (but great) Noritsu, and Frontier scanning options that you would find at most labs around the world. We also wanted to offer very large and malleable scans at a relatively affordable price point.
For both our standard and pixel-shift camera scans, we’ll be using a Fuji GFX100S. The choice to use this camera is mainly to capture as much color detail as possible when ‘scanning’ the negative. The GFX100S has a pixel shift mode that allows for capturing full RGB data at each pixel when used. This mode, combined with a light source that is has a high color rendering index, is how we are hoping to achieve high fidelity in our scans. We are using a Contax 645 120mm Makro lens and a 99CRI light source for this setup.
For the other option, we are using a Nikon Coolscan 9000, which has been a staple in the scanning community for many years. For more information on both methods please see the video and gallery that compares each method, below.
*If you’re renting a film camera from us and want to use our film scanning service, your first roll of film (standard methods, i.e. Nikon scanner, or standard camera scan) is free! You can hand the roll of developed film over to us when you return your camera.
